Sections of plaster and decorative floral work reportedly fell from the first floor of the Charminar in Hyderabad, raising concerns over the maintenance of the city’s iconic monument and the alleged negligence of the Archaeological Department.
The incident involved portions of floral decorations that were undergoing repair and subsequently fell to the ground. As the incident occurred at night, there were no tourists in the vicinity, averting what could have been a serious accident.
Tourists and locals have expressed concern over repeated incidents of portions of the historic structure falling off. On an earlier occasion, sections facing the Mecca Masjid had reportedly fallen, while another incident involved portions on the side of the Bhagyalakshmi temple.
The latest incident has renewed concerns among visitors and local residents over the maintenance of the Charminar, which attracts tourists from across the country.
Locals questioned how the Archaeological Department could allow such lapses in the upkeep of a monument that is widely recognised as an icon of Hyderabad and remains one of the city’s major tourist attractions.
