With heavy rainfall forecast in the district, Hanamkonda District Collector Chahat Bajpai has directed district officials, municipal commissioners, tahsildars, MPDOs and other field-level personnel to remain alert and take all necessary precautionary measures to prevent disruption and ensure public safety.
The Collector held a Google Meet with district-level officials from various departments, municipal commissioners, tahsildars and MPDOs from the Hanamkonda Collectorate on Thursday to review the rainfall situation, prevailing conditions and preparedness in view of the high alert issued for Thursday and Friday.
During the meeting, she reviewed the rainfall recorded in different mandals and sought details on the condition of tanks, streams, rivulets and roads. She also reviewed areas that had faced problems during previous spells of heavy rain and directed officials to take preventive measures in such vulnerable locations.
Collector Chahat Bajpai said Velair and Atmakur mandals had received heavy rainfall on Wednesday. As there was a possibility of streams and rivulets overflowing and floodwater entering roads if heavy rainfall occurred again on Thursday and Friday, officials were directed to take advance precautionary measures.
She instructed officials to continuously monitor the situation at tanks, streams and rivulets and identify in advance locations where floodwater could enter roads. Necessary steps should be taken to prevent inconvenience to the public, she said.
The Collector also directed officials to keep sandbags ready wherever required. Irrigation department officials were asked to regularly collect and update details on the water levels in all tanks across the district. They were also instructed to continuously monitor tank levels and water flow whenever rainfall intensified.
During periods of heavy rain, officials should remain locally available within their respective jurisdictions and respond immediately at the field level if any problem arose, the Collector said. She directed officials to identify areas that had faced difficulties during earlier rains and assess the precautionary measures required there.
Within the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation limits, plastic waste and other garbage accumulated in nalas should be removed immediately, she directed. Necessary measures should also be taken to prevent waterlogging near major drains. The Collector further instructed officials to keep JCBs and other machinery ready in required locations across the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation area as well as all mandals so that immediate relief and emergency operations could be undertaken whenever necessary.
In view of the heavy rainfall, arrangements should be made to ensure that officials and staff remained available round the clock at the control room. Officials were asked to respond immediately to complaints and emergency information received from the public. She called for increased vigilance during continuous rainfall and directed officials to identify vulnerable locations in advance and take necessary measures.
